Weather |
October in Deer Valley is a transitional month which can be cold at times. The historic average for the October 10th weekend is a high of 62 degrees and a low of 29 degrees. Snowfall is also a possibility.
Altitude |
The altitude of Park City is 6,900 feet and Upper Deer Valley is 8,100 feet. The physical effects of this higher altitude can include feeling a little tired and headaches. It is highly advisable to drink plenty of water, ideally beginning a few days before traveling. Aspirin also helps. It takes a few days for ones body to adjust to the altitude. If you travel by car rather than plane, the chances of being affected by the higher altitude are less because of the gradual change in elevation. If you have any concerns, please consult your doctor or other medical resources in advance.
Stairs and Inclines |
If you stay at any place other than Stein Eriksen Lodge, you will have some degree of walking, stairs and outdoor inclines to deal with. While there are stairs within Stein Eriksen, they also have elevators.
If you stay at The Chateau, there are a few stairs on your 5 minute walk to Stein Eriksen Lodge.
If you are at Little Belle, you will have about 2 dozen outdoor steps leading out of Little Belle followed by an inclined walk that is 10 minutes to Silver Lake Village and Stein Eriksen Lodge.
The restaurant for the rehearsal dinner on Friday has a short flight of stairs leading up to its private dining room. There is no elevator. Restaurants in Park City generally do not have elevators because of the space limitations they have by virtue of being historic buildings.
Most of the restaurants and shops in Park City are on Main Street, which is on an incline for much of its length.
Weekend Attire |
You will need a variety of wardrobe given the typical weather for this time of year. Especially if you participate in both indoor and outdoor activities. Below are some suggestions for the different activities:
The Friday evening rehearsal dinner will be dressy casual. It is likely to be rather cool in the evenings, so please wear what is comfortable and warm.
For the mountainside morning hike, lightweight hiking shoes or tennis shoes are sufficient. There are inclines and declines on the path from Silver Lake Village to The Montage, with some occasional small rocks and tree roots along the way. Warm trousers, such as jeans, should be sufficient. A long sleeve shirt and a removeable cover for additional warmth is suggested. The path is largely shaded, but sunglasses or a cap may still be a good idea.
For the Park City morning tour, comfortable shoes, such as tennis shoes, are recommended. The rest of the attire is the same as that for the mountainside hike. Comfort and warmth are the priority.
The wedding and reception will be semi-formal. The ceremony will occur on the balcony overlooking the mountains, so dress for comfort and warmth. The reception will also be outdoors if the weather is good, and the dinner will be indoors.
Sunday brunch will be casual. Wear what you like for the weather and your day’s activities or travel.
